The Problems with the Common Core

There are a number of problems with the Common Core, including:

  • The standards are too rigorous. The Common Core standards are much more difficult than the previous standards, and they are not appropriate for all students. As a result, many students are struggling to keep up with the material, and they are falling behind.
  • The curriculum is too narrow. The Common Core curriculum is very narrow, and it does not allow for much flexibility. This means that teachers are not able to tailor their lessons to the needs of their students, and they are forced to teach the same material to all students, regardless of their abilities or interests.
  • The testing is too frequent. Students are required to take Common Core tests multiple times throughout the year, and these tests are used to measure their progress. However, these tests are not a good measure of student learning, and they are actually causing a lot of stress for students and teachers.

The Consequences of the Common Core

The Common Core is having a number of negative consequences for our children, including:

  • Students are falling behind. As mentioned above, the Common Core standards are too rigorous for many students, and they are falling behind. This is особенно true for students who are from low-income families or who have learning disabilities.
  • Students are losing interest in learning. The Common Core curriculum is very narrow and boring, and it is causing students to lose interest in learning. This is особенно true for students who are creative or who have a passion for a particular subject.
  • Teachers are leaving the profession. The Common Core is making it difficult for teachers to do their jobs. The standards are too rigorous, the curriculum is too narrow, and the testing is too frequent. As a result, many teachers are leaving the profession.

What We Can Do About It

There are a number of things that we can do to fix the Common Core, including:

  • Lower the standards. The Common Core standards are too rigorous for many students, and they need to be lowered.
  • Broaden the curriculum. The Common Core curriculum is too narrow, and it needs to be broadened. This will allow teachers to tailor their lessons to the needs of their students.
  • Reduce the testing. Students are required to take Common Core tests multiple times throughout the year, and this is too much. The number of tests needs to be reduced.

We need to take action to fix the Common Core. Our children's futures are at stake.
