This book explores the ways in which early modern Lutheran German poets responded to the death of their parents. Through close readings of poems by Martin Luther, Andreas Gryphius, Paul Fleming, and others, the book shows how these poets used poetry to express their grief, to come to terms with their loss, and to find comfort and hope in the face of death.

The book begins by examining the Lutheran understanding of death and bereavement. It then discusses the ways in which early modern Lutheran poets expressed their grief in their poetry. The book shows how these poets used a variety of poetic forms and techniques to convey their sense of loss and longing. In some poems, they expressed their grief directly, through the use of language that is raw and emotional. In other poems, they expressed their grief more indirectly, through the use of symbols and metaphors. The book also discusses the ways in which early modern Lutheran poets found comfort and hope in the face of death. It shows how these poets drew on their faith to help them to cope with their loss. They also found comfort in the knowledge that they would be reunited with their loved ones in heaven.

This book is a valuable contribution to the study of early modern Lutheran literature and culture. It provides a new perspective on the ways in which these poets responded to the death of their parents. The book also offers insights into the Lutheran understanding of death and bereavement.
