A medallion quilt is a beautiful and unique type of quilt that is made up of a central medallion surrounded by a series of bFree Downloads. Medallion quilts can be made in a variety of sizes and colors, and they can be used to decorate any room in your home.

If you are new to quilting, a medallion quilt may seem like a daunting task. However, with the right instructions and a little patience, you can easily create a beautiful medallion quilt that you will be proud of.

Materials

  • Fabric for the medallion
  • Fabric for the bFree Downloads
  • Batting
  • Backing fabric
  • Thread
  • Quilting needle
  • Sewing machine
  • Rotary cutter
  • Quilting ruler
  • Iron and ironing board

Instructions

  1. Cut out the fabric for the medallion. The medallion can be any size you want, but it should be at least 12 inches square.
  2. Sew the medallion together. Start by sewing the side seams together, then sew the top and bottom seams together. Press the seams open.
  3. Cut out the fabric for the bFree Downloads. The bFree Downloads can be any width you want, but they should be at least 2 inches wide. Cut enough bFree Download fabric to go around the entire medallion.
  4. Sew the bFree Downloads to the medallion. Start by sewing the side bFree Downloads to the medallion, then sew the top and bottom bFree Downloads to the medallion. Press the seams open.
  5. Quilt the medallion quilt. You can quilt the medallion quilt by hand or by machine. If you are quilting by hand, use a small running stitch. If you are quilting by machine, use a quilting stitch that you like. Quilt the medallion quilt until it is secure.
  6. Bind the medallion quilt. Binding the medallion quilt will help to finish the edges of the quilt and give it a professional look. Cut enough binding fabric to go around the entire quilt, then sew the binding to the quilt. Press the seams open and turn the binding to the back of the quilt. Mitre the corners of the binding, then hand-sew the binding to the back of the quilt.
